Advertising Personality

For an entire generation, I became known as Günter Kaiser — better known as “Mr. Kaiser” — the face of the Hamburg-Mannheimer commercials. I also appeared in several other advertising campaigns over the years.

Brand Ambassador “Günter Kaiser”

For many Germans, I am best known as Günter “Mr. Kaiser” — one of the biggest advertising icons in German advertising history. I played the role for 14 years and became the long-time face of Hamburg-Mannheimer Insurance. “The advertising character “Mr. Kaiser” was, for decades, the familiar face of Hamburg-Mannheimer Insurance — and became one of the most recognizable fictional figures in German television history. This was underscored in 2002, when surveys revealed that 86 percent of all Germans knew “Mr. Kaiser,” a level of brand recognition reached by only a handful of advertising characters. Through his long-standing portrayal of the role, Nick Wilder became a trusted face for millions of viewers, helping turn “Mr. Kaiser” into a genuine advertising icon whose popularity continues to echo across generations.”

Mr. Kaiser Commercials

The advertising character “Mr. Kaiser” was, for decades, the face of Hamburg-Mannheimer Insurance and became one of the most well-known fictional figures on German television. This became especially evident in 2002, when surveys showed that 86 percent of Germans knew “Mr. Kaiser” — a level of recognition achieved by very few advertising characters. This enormous familiarity made Nick Wilder, who portrayed the role for many years, a trusted face for millions of TV viewers and cemented the character’s status as a true advertising icon.

Mr. Kaiser at Check24

In 2017, Check24 brought back the legendary insurance representative “Mr. Kaiser” — yes, that impeccably combed, eternally friendly gentleman from the Hamburg-Mannheimer commercials. And who better to revive him than… well, me. In the spot, Mr. Kaiser drops in on the Bergmann family to talk about car insurance — this time with a wink, a smile, and a healthy dose of self-irony. After all, when you’ve spent decades telling Germany how to insure their lives, it’s only fair to poke a little fun at yourself. The campaign marked an unexpected (and humorous) comeback for a character who had shaped German television for 38 years and who, apparently, still refuses to retire — even if his actor sometimes tries.
